QLD Fishing Report

Brought to you by Compleat Angler Mackay:

Last week’s column I mentioned the time is right for our winter visitors to catch sooty grunter from Eungella, Teemburra and Kinchant Dams, well more feedback this week, has that improving with the sooties in the waterways of the upper Pioneer from the back of Marian to Mia Mia and Cattle Creek. Lures to use has been the central weighted Kamikazi and suspending bevy shads or jackall squirrels. Favoured colour is a combination of greens and browns. It’s worth noting that this info come about before the rain a couple of days ago, so focus may shift to working the lay downs along the banks. With the smaller tides over the next couple of days, whiting are still on the radar, concentrate in the area of the sand bottom creeks and estuaries, then as the tide size increase with the moon phase up to full moon, then a fish on the incoming along the beaches will be productive. Lobbies are always the preferred bait fished at East Point, Town and Illawong Beach. The hole off Glendower Point is the place for fingermark while luring with gulp jerkbaits or lunker city Grubster. Anything green seems to be the favoured colour. The hole at Allom Point is the place for fingermark while jigging with gulp jerkbaits or lunker city grubster lures while just south at Taffy Island and Glendower point the same lures can be used for snapper and mackerel. Being exposed you’ll need good sea conditions to maximise your chances in that area.
