QLD Fishing Report

Brought to you by Compleat Angler Mackay:

A record number of 88 senior and 10 junior anglers fished the Domino’s Mackay Mackerel Shootout with Andrew Morris winning catch, weigh-in at 27.9kilo and Junior Brayden Lewis weigh-in of 11.70kilo. Keswick and St Bees Island was popular with catches. Large and small mouth nannygai are still the target around the inner reefs and islands with anglers having to move around due to losing fish to sharks. Bailey, Three Rocks would be worth a look for mackerel and trout also grunter of the spur running S\E of Three Rocks. A good sign for the next billfish season in spring is several black marlin being sighted around Three Rock to Derwent Island. The close inshore Islands of Sarina are still worth a fish for snapper on daybreak. If you’re going to fish the Southern Harbour Wall the best live bait is sennett (yellowtail pike) over all other, for yellowtail trevally, mackerel, queenfish, the odd snapper and jewfish off the Eastern end. The North Wall Beach for whiting on worm bait. A few grunter, flathead and whiting in the creeks on the top of the tide using lobby baits. Crabbing is still a good option in the main streams and Teemburra Dam anglers have sounded plenty of barra and sooties, however only a few have taken to a well presented soft plastic.

Good Luck.
