QLD Fishing Report

Brought to you by Compleat Angler Mackay:

Christmas week is shaping up to be a beauty. With a receipt of smaller tides, creek and offshore species on the improve, prawns and crabs in good numbers, the most important ingredient for all this to be achieved is a favourable forecast. The shipping channel west of Kindermar and Chauvel reefs is your red emperor spot in 55-60m of water. On the Northeast face of Big Stevens reef just round the corner of the channel, mixed reef along with trout and sweetlip are being bagged. For a mixed bag around the islands try Knight, Double, Wigton and The Goldsmiths on the smaller tides. Inshore, the deeper water in the Rabbit-Newry channel, The Brothers for a total mixed catch, grunter, trevally, jewfish, jacks, grass sweetlip, parrotfish and trout. Too the south Allom and Glendower Point, Taffy Island for a variety of fingermark, jacks, grass sweetlip, stripy and parrotfish. While the prawn and crabs numbers have been good a few grunter, king salmon, flathead and the odd whiting and bream have helped fill the catch box. We should see an increase in the whiting, bream and flathead on the next moon in the meantime on the small tides, Reliance, Victor, Blackrock, Mystery and Plane Creek to get out of the current. For a family outing to the beach fish Williamsons, Shoal Point, Bucasia, East Point, Illawong and Sarina for flathead, small trevally and bream on the top of the tide. Nashy’s Compleat Angler wish everyone a safe and merry Christmas and may all your fish be big ones.

Good Luck.
