QLD Fishing Report

Brought to you by Compleat Angler Mackay:

Crabbing and prawning are still the main activity going on a the moment. As the tides drop back hopefully we can head offshore for trevally, GT, and bottom fish action. Firstly while the crab numbers have eased a little, history tells us that will increase come late March-April. Both prawning and crabbing are done in the creek system. The front of Murray round to St Helens, Mathers round to Victor creek, The rock wall between Ron Camm and Bridge Road fishing jetty and the mouth of Rocky Dam Creek. The new Hospital Bridge is holding bait at the moment which the tarpon are feeding on at night. Gear up for whiting over the sand flats on this weeks tides. Pump yabbies to fish Dawsons, front of McEwens and Sandy Creek, Bakers, Illawong and Town Beach, Shoal Point and Belmunda. Given that better weather prevails with the tides an inshore fish for grass sweetlip, cod and trevally along the rocks of Shoal Point. A fish around Taffy Island should produce grunter on the kick in tide as too around Freshwater Point. It’s been a while since we have worked the grounds along the shipping Channel and inner reefs, tides later in the week will suit there for the nannygai and emperor. Keep an eye out on the way for surface action around the current lines for billfish.

Good Luck.
