QLD Fishing Report

Brought to you by Compleat Angler Mackay:

A prime bait at the moment is slab gold fin mullet and while commercially, it is hard to supply, anyone with a castnet or baitnet should be working over the sand flats and beaches at Illawong, Bakers, East Point, Reliance and Sand Bay that feeds into Wharf, Bobongies and Constant Ck. Fish those same areas for grunter, king and blue salmon, bream and flathead. As the moon strengthens the western side of Forgansmith Bridge will produce whiting on yabby baits or poppers in a metre of water. A small window of opportunity there with the kick of the tide in and out then a move upstream pass the Hospital Bridge where fish off 30cm being a common size. Given suitable sea conditions there’s Spanish to be caught at Calder, Scawfell, Nth Overfall and Charles Rock. 190DD Halco red/white is the go to lure otherwise the new 140DD is making its mark as a reliable mackerel catcher. Over the next week it will be worthwhile to troll the bommies on a making tide of Hay Point and Dalrymple Bay with the Halco 140DD for the school and spotty mackerel, allow for the odd longtail tuna to beat the mackerel to your lure.

Good Luck.
