QLD Fishing Report

Brought to you by Compleat Angler Mackay:

Reports in have been wide and varied covering the creeks right through the inshore islands out to the channel and reefs. Inshore catches of snapper will increase as we go through the tidal phases. The Southern End of the Downward Patches and the shoals north and south of the Curlew Island are prime spots at the moment. To the north Parker Reef is producing nannygai, sweetlip, cod and Spanish mackerel but be prepared to move around as the sharks move in on your catch. The Southern End of the Goldsmith Island is still worth a visit for trout, sweetlip and Spanish mackerel also the nearby Bullion Rocks, Allonby and Coffin Island for bigger size Spanish. The mudcrab  population has been pretty healthy since Easter so it is still worthwhile setting the pots. Pumping yabbies along the beaches has improved and still is the best bait in the estuaries for whiting, flathead and grunter. The high bank out the front of Sandy and McEwens and the mouth of Alligator Creek for the species mentioned. Middle Creek in Teemburra Dam is holding some decent sooty grunter when lured with 3in. soft plastics.

Good Luck.
