QLD Fishing Report

Brought to you by Compleat Angler Mackay:

The first week of the school holidays has seen anglers blessed with smaller tides combined with half decent weather which in turn has resulted with some reasonable catches. In particular Landbased anglers have scored well with whiting from McEwens Beach close to where the lobby beds are. The stretch of water upstream of the Hospital Bridge will go well for whiting on next week tides, worm bait to be used, then out the mouth at East Point fish the beach and sand gutters with lobbies and prawn. Flathead can are found there as well. Bluey numbers are reasonable at Cape Hillsborough and Southern end of Belmunda Beach. Good quality local green prawn, small rock crab or mantis shrimp preferred bait. Without the journey pass the passage, Bailey Island and Three Rocks also further south to Derwent and Penrith Island are worth a look for Spanish on trolled lures also fish the bottom in that area in 15-20m of water for trout, sweetlip and nannygai and your chances are good to sight a few whales heading south.

Good Luck.
