QLD Fishing Report
Brought to you by Compleat Angler Mackay:
The snapper are still around in small numbers with reported catches around Prudhoe and the overfalls. Squid and pillie bait produced the goods with the odd fish being lured by jigging technique. Spanish mackerel still dominate the pelagic species around Bailey, the patch of Wigton and the Northern End of Aspatria Island next to St Bees. Trolled gar did the job while the prime ribbonfish bait is so scarce. School and spotty mackerel are being taken from the North Western side of Calder while spinning small chrome metal lures. Sweetlip and bluey are being taken from Outer Newry while the creeks from Murray round to Victor creek is your grunter spots. The stand out bait on the rising tide is slab gar. Whiting numbers are reasonable using yabby bait on an afternoon fish around the top of the tide should help.
Whale sightings are becoming more frequent caution is required especially if travelling at night.
