QLD Fishing Report

Brought to you by Compleat Angler Mackay:

Once we get through the last week of winter, then we should see the trade winds kick in which means exciting times chasing the pelagic species. In the mean time with high tide round midday during next week great opportunity to fish on top of the submerged rock reefs of Shoal Point and Eimeo. Target grass sweetlip, cod and mackerel with pilchard and squid. Use the full moon to hunt for squid of the harbour breakwater, Slade Island, Hay Point tug harbour. #2.5-3 size squid jig in pilchard or pink or orange colour. Crabbing in the creeks will slow down for a month or so however grunter, king salmon, flathead and whiting will be around for a mixed bag. Live bait preferred otherwise fresh prawn or strip mullet works a treat. Most of our creeks mouths these days are shallow during low tide so can be difficult to navigate if you miss your timing. The success story of Spanish catches continues around the offshore Islands like Snare Peak and Three Rocks. Floating gar or sauries will maximise catches otherwise flat fall jigs for rod bending fun.

Good Luck.
