QLD Fishing Report
Brought to you by Compleat Angler Mackay:
We have had a couple of glorious, but hot days the past week which meant, every excuse possible was made by anglers to be on the water to capitalise on the tuna and mackerel run happening at the moment. Locally for Landbased fisherman, the Southern breakwater has been the hot spot. It has been as crazy as boaties and shore based anglers coming to words as they were within casting distance of each other, not a lot of common sense shown unfortunately. One group of 4 shore based anglers bagged 20 (bag limit) spotty mackerel for the morning. Now the mack tuna (kawa kawa) have been working the bait on the surface while the school and spotty mackerel have been underneath. Pilchard bait on gang hook for the mackerel. For boaties, the rocks of Bucasia and Eimeo beach, while Taffy Island just south of Sarina for inshore action. A couple of welcomed storms has the crabpots finally in and working, results not in as yet. The creeks haven’t changed much with grunter still the main species while the odd trevally, tarpon and salmon making up the variety, also the odd whiting around Green Hills. Once we start cast netting prawn then we will see change to the bag size in the creeks. late mail has live baiting for blue salmon not king in the Proserpine River, which is unusual for this time of year.
